Setting & Plot

We've all seen those apocolyptic movies where the world as we know it is destroyed. Somehow, people always survive and the end is always bright. But what happens to the survivors after they've survived? Let's find out, shall we?

The Back Story

America had finally gotten out of the rut they'd been in for so long, and the economy was starting to grow once again. People were at peace, and though not everything was perfect, it seemed things couldn't get better. No one was really paying attention to the rest of the world because, well we had our own problems to worry about. But when North Korea was attacked, we took notice. Two thirds of the land was gone, and an unfathomable number of people perished. Rumor was that Korea had been planning an attack on the US, and when news of the devastation reached us, we figured it must have backfired. But that much damage? What kind of weapon could do that?

By the end of the week, the same sort of devastation was being seen in the rest of Asia and part of Europe. People were starting to flee, most coming to America. Millions died. Finally, a news reporter caught a glimpse of the attack in Australia. Aliens- that's what we decided. A lot of people tried to play it off as some kind of joke, but it was hard to refute it when they finally hit North America. Canada was first to go. Days, and the entire country had been reduced to ocean. Storms were being caused by the shifts in the atmosphere and no one knew how to fight the aliens in their machines. When we finally caught one, a Japanese researcher by the name of Makoto Kagawa was able to test it and find it's weakness = disease. The extra-terestrials couldn't handle the common cold because they'd never been subjected to it. We fought them with common sicknesses and eventually, the attacks stopped. But the world had been reduced to one continent surrounded by water. It was about the size of Greenland and stretched from California to Missouri, and Wyoming to somewhere in Mexico. Of course, states no longer existed, and much of the population had died.

Today

Today, handfuls of people, the survivors, reside in refugee camps all over parts of what used to be the US and part of Mexico. Most of the world has been destroyed, and there are no more countries or states. The remants of land mass has been named Diluculo Novus, latin for New Dawn. A man by the name of David Bailey, the secretary of defense for the now deceased president of the United States has been placed in charge of rebuilding Diluculo Novus. Rather than divide the 'country' into states, there are now divisions. Division One is the North West corner, Division Two is the North East Corner, Division 3 is the South West, and Division 4 is the South East. The refugee camps within the divisions have been given names as well, though more creative. Still, some people haven't been able to get to the camps, and we're not sure how many people are alive. Despite the chaos, life is going on, in a much simpler way. A government is trying to be formed and there is talk of the camps becoming cities one day.
