Autumn has arrived and the leaves are changing in most of Diluculo Novus. The heat of summer is fading and pleasant cool breezes take it's place. After a hot, dry summer, the first rains of Fall are welcome and water is more available to everyone.
Any new threads will take place in the fall as of 8/12. Old threads may continue in Summer.

I heard her wade into the water, and I smiled. I was glad to have someone to share this experience with. I was completely relaxed, until I heard a weird sound. I froze, and only realized what it was a split second before a wave of water splashed over me. I spluttered and fell into the water, going under. I came up, splashing all over, but Skylar was gone. I saw her blonde hair, darkened by the water, floating on the surface. I sank a little deeper into the water, so that just my eyes and nose were above the surface of the glassy water. I smiled, and waited for her to come up, planning to splash at her as soon as she got a good breath of air. Bubbles rose from where she was under the water, and then I saw her head break the surface. She gasped for air, and then turned to face me. I slid my hand over the surface of the water, creating a nice wave that was aimed in her general direction. I laughed, and then fell back into the water.
When I broke the surface and faced Kyle, I saw his hand drag across the water just in time to realize what was happening. I could only close my eyes before the water splashed my face. I opened my eyes and felt the water dripping off my face as I scowled. Kyle was laughing, though, and it was contagious. I wiped a hand down my face to get rid of the excess water and sank down to my knees again. He fell back in the water and I started to laugh with him.
When I'd caught my breath, I lifted my face to the sky and sighed. "This is nice. It feels good to get away from all of that," I waved toward the hotel, "and enjoy the day." I smiled at Kyle and then looked back at the sky. "I can't remember the last time I laughed this much." I closed my eyes, relishing the warmth of the sun on my face. It was the perfect day for this.
I looked back at the rest of the beach and tried to envision it with all of our fellow refugees enjoying the water like we were in this tide pool. I straightened up and then looked at Kyle. "It's a shame no one else is enjoying it...maybe...do you think we could clean the beach up? We could split it up over several days so it's not so much, and we don't have to start right now either..." I explained, trying to make it sound like something he'd want to take part in. I looked back at the shore, picturing it.

We both laughed, and when we'd caught our breath, she smiled warmly. She commented about how nice it was to get away from everything, and I nodded. I wished we could share it with the rest of the refugees. I can't remember the last time I laughed this much, she said. "Well, I'm honored to make you laugh," I said, bowing slightly. I then flashed her a cheesy grin.
She looked around at the beach, and I saw her face fall slightly. It's a shame no one else is enjoying it...maybe...do you think we could clean the beach up? We could split it up over several days so it's not so much, and we don't have to start right now either... I smiled. It was like she had read my mind. I paused, and put my finger to my chin, like I was thinking about it. "Hmmm..." I hummed, drumming my fingers against my chin. Then I chuckled and nodded. "That sounds like a great idea."
Skylar had a good heart. That much was plain. She wanted to have fun, but she wanted to have fun with people. She wanted to share with people the things that made her happy, because she wants them to be happy, too. I stood there in the water, marveling at her love for people. I then realized this was probably creepy, so I turned my eyes to the beach around us. "How should we go about spreading the word? I'm sure people would like to help..."
I bowed back to him with a laugh. Kyle was fun, and I realized that I was glad he'd sat at my table. What if he hadn't? I would probably still be sitting there avoiding eye-contact with everyone. It felt like so much time had passed since he'd sat there, though as I looked at the sun's location in the sky, I noticed it was only around lunchtime.
A look came across Kyle's face as I spoke about cleaning the beach up, a look of amusement? At first I was worried that he'd start laughing and say I was crazy, but then he starting drumming his chin with his fingers. I felt relief as I realized he liked the idea. He then told me he thought it was a great idea and I smiled again. "Good, I'm glad."
He looked at me for a minute, and then asked how we should spread the word. He said he was sure others would like to help. "Well...I think that when they see us cleaning the beach, some people will ask questions or want to help too..." I wondered out loud.
I looked around; it was pretty bad right now. It might take a while before people would be encouraged to help. "If I knew anyone else in camp, I'd ask them to help," I half smiled. "We could put up a fliyer on the bulliten board?" As far as I knew, most of the camps had a bulliten board somewhere where refugees could post descriptions about lost family or friends and others could let them know if they'd seen them. It was also where people posted information they'd learned from other camps of refugees on the way, and where the military posted news from David Bailey when they showed up occasionally.

When I mentioned how I thought others would want to help us clean the beach, Skylar looked kind of skeptical. Or maybe it was my imagination? Well...I think that when they see us cleaning the beach, some people will ask questions or want to help too... She said slowly. I nodded, and scanned the beach. I didn't see anyone yet. Maybe they could see us from the camp? She said something about not knowing anyone from the camp. I chuckled and nodded. "You're the first person I've talked to since I got here." Then she mentioned putting up a bulletin. I nodded encouragingly. "That's perfect! Plenty of people check that every day," I said, remembering.
I felt my stomach rumble, and I turned to Skylar. "Well, how about we go grab some lunch, and then we put up our bulletin, and come back out here and we can scope it out, and kind of pick a section to do each day. That way, we can pace ourselves -- depending on how many volunteers we get. We'll be more efficient that way," I said, using a lot of hand motions like I do when I'm planning. I got up, and offered her my hand again. "Let's go eat."
OOC :: I think we can start the new thread now. Just make your post with her in the new thread titled something like "Clean the Beach (Open)" or something cooler lol
